Situated in western Shandong province, Mount Tai stands more than 1,500 metres above sea level and covers an area of about 400 square kilometres. Being a magnificent, mountain of historical and cultural significance, Mount Tai has always been a place of worship for over 3,000 years. According to his¬torical records, a total of 72 emperors visited it. Many writers visited Mount Tai to acquire inspiration for their poems and essays, and many artists for their paintings. Hence, a great many cultural relics were left on the mountain. Mount Tai has become one of the major tourist sites in China now.
