Mount Hua is situated in Huayin city, 120 kilometers away from Xi'an. It is part of the Qinling Mountains, which divide not only southern and northern Shaanxi, but also South and North China. Unlike Mount Tai where people used to worship, Mount Hua was rarely visited in the past because the road to the summit was extremely dangerous. However, people who wish to live long lives often climb the mountain as many herbs grow there, rare ones in particular. The number of visitors has increased signif¬icantly since cable cars were installed in the 1990s.
